20 Lessons I Learnt in My 20s: : Boundaries, Love, Patience, Confidence, & More
I did not learn anything in my twenties.
Just kidding. I absorbed enough to write volumes, though I will only share a fraction here.
The twenties are often glorified as a decade of freedom, exploration, and vitality—and while all of that may be true, they are equally laced with uncertainty, discomfort, and a quiet urgency to figure it all out. This chapter of life is paradoxical. We are expected to be wise without having lived, and to be accomplished without yet having mastered much.
Now, on the brink of a new decade, I pause to reflect. Not to dwell on the past, but to draw from it. With every misstep and small victory, my twenties were a crucible for growth. Below are twenty life lessons that marked my evolution—and the intentions I hold dearly as I step into my thirties.

1. Fortify Yourself: Find Yourself → Know Yourself → Master Yourself
Personal strength begins with inner clarity. You must first find yourself before you can truly know yourself. Only then can you attempt mastery. Without this foundation, even your best intentions may falter.
2. “Know Thyself” Is More Than Philosophy—It’s a Lifeline
This ancient maxim, often attributed to Socrates and inscribed at the Temple of Apollo, is as relevant today as ever. To know yourself is to shield yourself from confusion, comparison, and compromise.
3. Time Is Not Running Out—It’s Waiting to Be Respected
Time will not chase you. But if you do not harness it, it will leave you behind. In your twenties, time feels infinite. In truth, it is quietly shaping your destiny. Invest it wisely.
4. Solitude Is a Sacred Teacher
Learning to be alone is essential. In solitude, your true voice emerges. The more comfortable you become in your own presence, the more intentional your relationships and choices will be.
5. Joy and Responsibility Must Coexist
The art of adulthood lies in finding equilibrium between pleasure and duty. Be present enough to savour your youth, but anchored enough to build a stable future.
6. Strength Without Restraint Is Chaos
Learn the rules before you break them. Develop discipline before you pursue freedom. Be powerful, but precise. Be a warrior in a garden, not a gardener in war.
7. Your Body Is Your Ally—Treat It Accordingly
Prioritise health not for appearance, but for longevity, clarity, and performance. Movement, sleep, nutrition, and mental hygiene are non-negotiables. What you do daily becomes who you are.
8. Appearance Is Not Superficial—It is Communication
While looks aren’t everything, they are the first language you speak. Dress with intention. Speak with presence. Move with grace. First impressions often open the door to deeper conversations.
9. Seek the Bigger Table, Not the Loudest Spotlight
Be willing to be the least experienced person in the room. Growth happens when you are stretched by those who challenge and inspire you. Remain humble, curious, and teachable.
10. Refine Your Strengths, But Address Your Gaps
Master what you are gifted in, but don’t ignore your blind spots. Know yourself well enough to understand both your power and your limitations.
11. Cultivate a Specialty, But Remain Multi-Faceted
Depth in one area creates expertise. Breadth across many fosters wisdom. Be excellent at something, but remain open to everything.
12. Lead With Integrity and Intention
Whether in your work, art, or relationships—do it from the heart. Let your actions reflect your values. Intention and excellence will carry you further than charisma ever could.
13. Connection Is Rooted in Empathy
The most enduring relationships are not built on entertainment, but on understanding. Seek to make others feel seen, heard, and safe. Emotional intelligence is timeless.
14. Date With Purpose, Not Just Preference
Romantic flings may be thrilling, but purposeful relationships are transformative. Choose partners with shared values and long-term vision. Love is not found—it is built.
15. Guard Your Peace, Even If It Costs You Comfort
Setting boundaries is a skill that may initially feel unnatural, especially with people you care about. But self-preservation is not selfish—it is wise. Say no without guilt.
16. Choose Friends Who Inspire and Challenge You
Your circle should reflect the person you are becoming, not the one you’ve outgrown. Keep the rare friends who stayed through it all, but be willing to expand your orbit toward growth.
17. Make Your Passion Profitable
The dream is not simply to work less, but to work with joy and autonomy. Monetise your talents. Hone your craft. And remember—when you do what you love, you bring excellence to everything.
18. Professionalism Is Not Friendship
Warmth in the workplace is important, but not every colleague is a confidant. Maintain clarity between your personal and professional identities. Protect your privacy and your peace.
19. Let Value Define Your Worth, Not Validation
It’s tempting to chase titles, accolades, or firsts. Instead, become the most competent in the room. Be paid for the value you deliver, not the image you curate.
20. Saving Will Sustain You, But Investing Will Liberate You
Save enough to weather storms. Invest to build the life you envision. Invest in what you believe in—your education, your health, your relationships, and yes, your financial portfolio.
✨ Looking Ahead: Aspirations for My 30s
Now, as I step into a new decade, I am not seeking to reinvent myself, but rather to evolve with greater depth and direction. Here are a few aspirations I carry into this next chapter:
🌿 1. Live With Absolute Intention
I want my time, words, and energy to be deliberate. No more mindless scrolling, rushing, or reacting. Every day is a page in my story—I want to write it well.
✍🏼 2. Share My Story Through Writing
The insights I’ve gathered deserve a more permanent form. Whether in book, blog, or voice, I want to share truth with beauty, depth, and impact.
🧘🏻♀️ 3. Cultivate a Life of Peace and Clarity
Success, to me, is a calm mind, a regulated nervous system, and a joyful heart. I want to design a life that feels good internally—not just looks good externally.
💰 4. Achieve Financial Sovereignty
Beyond wealth, I want freedom. Freedom to create, to rest, to give, and to choose. Financial literacy and strategy are no longer optional—they are essential.
🏋🏼 5. Prioritise Strength and Vitality
Health is not an aesthetic—it is a form of freedom. I aspire to move with power, age with grace, and show up with energy that fills a room.
💞 6. Build a Relationship Rooted in Faith and Vision
I am no longer interested in temporary flames. I want something enduring. A partnership that challenges, deepens, and multiplies the best in both people.
🌎 7. Travel With Curiosity, Not Just for Leisure
I want to understand the world, not just escape from it. To walk unfamiliar streets, listen to new languages, and feel the edges of my comfort zone stretch.
📚 8. Master One High-Income, High-Impact Skill
I aim to expand both my intellectual and professional toolkit. Whether it be public speaking, investing, or digital storytelling, I want to be formidable in one realm—and competent in many.
🧠 9. Surround Myself With Aligned Individuals
I crave a circle of peers who are deeply grounded, spiritually mature, and intellectually alive. I no longer want to explain my ambition. I want it to be understood.
🕊️ 10. Deepen My Religious Practice
Judaism has anchored me, and I want to lean into it with greater intentionality. Stillness, prayer, discipline, gratitude—these are no longer optional rituals, but necessary roots.
On To The Next Chapter
There is still so much to learn. These lessons are only a glimpse—notes scribbled in the margins of a far bigger story. The twenties were the prologue. The thirties, I believe, will be the rise.
If you are in the midst of this strange, beautiful decade, allow yourself the grace to grow, the courage to fail, and the wisdom to begin again. You do not need to have it all figured out—you only need to remain open.
To the next chapter. May it be bold, beautiful, and deeply yours.
