The Evil Eye: How To Stay Elegant When Posting & Sharing
Hello, Gorgeous!
Privacy is so sexy.
It is why I do not share what car I have, the front of my home, and hope to never show my future children’s faces until they are consenting adults. In addition, I hope I do not come off as too flashy with luxury purchases as so many homes in Los Angeles have become targets for burglaries.Â
There is a bit of wind to this. In the Middle East, it is called the evil eye.

According to the internet, this is the definition:
In Middle Eastern culture, “the eye” refers to the “Evil Eye” (ayn al-hasÅ«d), a malevolent curse caused by envy or admiration that brings misfortune, illness, or injury. To combat this, blue-and-white, eye-shaped amulets (nazar) or the Hamsa hand are used to deflect the gaze, symbolizing protection against envy.

Key Aspects of the Evil Eye in the Middle East:
- The Concept: It is believed that a person can inflict harm—ranging from minor bad luck to serious disease—simply by staring at someone’s good fortune or prized possessions with jealousy.
- Targets: Children, newly married couples, the beautiful, and the wealthy are considered most at risk.
- Protection (Amulets): The most common protection is the Nazar (a blue, glass bead with a white and blue eye). Another popular symbol is the Hamsa (or Hand of Fatima), a palm-shaped amulet often featuring an eye in the center.
- Preventative Phrases: To avoid accidentally giving the evil eye, people often say “Mashallah” (God has willed) when complimenting someone.
- Religious Context: While rooted in ancient folklore (dating back 5,000+ years), the belief is integrated into, but not officially part of, religious practices, often accompanied by Quranic recitations (such as Surah al-Falaq and Surah an-Nas) or prayers.

It is important to note that while widespread, some interpretations emphasize that ultimate protection comes from God, and over-obsession with the eye can be discouraged.
In a previous blog post I mentioned how offline is the new luxury. Touching grass is one of my favourite phrases, because it makes me think of the old days when we would revel in actually living life with scrapbooks of memories from red eye Kodak moments.
I was thinking about getting an instax camera just for this, but they are a touch bulky for my tiny bags. But they are still cute and on my radar. Never say never!

My sweetheart was annoyed that I posted him in his very first vlog when he told me conflicting information about the fact that he wanted to be more known in public. But not in the sense that people open the curtain into our personal lives.
With respect, I would show the back of his head or pre-approved vlogs. Things that always showed him in a respectful light – which is always. Because he is constantly doing hard tasks for me around the house and everywhere we go.
I stopped showing my man on the internet.

The last time I did this I got divorced. Also, sometimes men simply do not know how to act on camera and they freeze. Unless they are already on the internet in that capacity.
Not everyone is built for hearing their voice on replay. It took me years to get over this as I laugh when I used to cringe.
Besides that, I noticed people posting in their instagram bios who they are married to along with a bible verse.

It always bothered me that people do this, because it does not necessarily fend off weirdos who try to flirt with you anyway. But it is a great way to deter the stronger minded respectful people who would dare to think such a fabulous person would be single in the first place.
There are countless times when people try to disrespect me knowing I have a boyfriend and try to make advances regardless. That’s just nasty, y’all. Walk away. Walk away.
Any time you have a win, keep it quiet for a bit.

Until you let your entire family and friends know, I believe it is off limits to share certain news. Social media is only the place to consolidate this information as the final resort.
You might have family or acquaintances who have not earned the status as part of your close-knit community yet. But you want to let them in on your life.
Protection against the evil eye

A friend gifted me a hamsa bracelet of silver once and I cherish it dearly. So much so that I keep it in a special place that really needed improvement in my life. Flamenco dresses have a similar history which is why they usually have designs with polka dots.
Gypsies or gitanas would wear them to fend off evil spirits. I really like the meaning behind this style and this is why I wear a lot of polka dots. It’s also really feminine and cute!

This sounds really superstitious, but I believe in my heart some strange things like this and to protect yourself, girlie. Never let passing visitors into your world to keep it the way it is. Similar to how you would not let certain people know your dreams to not thwart them.
You see what I want you to see.

People who post on the internet – I consider myself a blogger not an influencer (don’t get it twisted) – only reveal what they want to be disclosed. Airing your dirty laundry on the internet is something I do my best to avoid, because I get hate comments even when I post something positive. I cannot imagine the disapproval of those who open up their lives as they do on TikTok.
What I truly want you to see

I am not hiding anything. You happen to only see solid occurrences after a delay. My goal is to post productivity, style, and elegant habits to uplift your life offline. I want you to live a rich life.
Every now and again I will post aspirational content, but it is only meant to be shared from an empowering and optimistic lens. You should feel invigorated, inspired, and beautiful after each post on any of my platforms.
Ultimately, protecting your life and loved ones online is a choice rooted in care, intention, and respect for privacy.

Sharing selectively allows you to live fully offline while still inspiring others with thoughtful, meaningful content. Remember: what you show is yours to control, and keeping some things sacred is its own kind of luxury.
