My key to easy everyday elegant dressing: Matching Sets

The way I show up as my best is when I look dressed to the nines without looking like I put any effort. Because I probably didn’t. 

I am an advocate for lazy girl luxury and low hanging fruit, which is where matching sets come in.

During my day to day, I like to get as much done as possible which typically entails throwing something on without thinking. If all my clothes match and look polished, then I have one less thing to worry about.

I believe if you are an elegant lady, you can truly make anything elegant. 

Yet I was delightfully surprised that I found countless styles that the intentionally elegant woman would opt for. 

This is normally where I would look for trends as opposed to timeless cuts that live forever, but I actually found stunning materials I would easily reach for. The silhouettes had an interesting twist that I really love for my basics to keep things interesting versus boring classic pieces that you get bored of over time. 

Each time I look at my outfits, they are interesting, some even more modest than my luxury designer garments, and for all ages. 

Never underestimate the power of how trends can become timeless, because timeless is different for everyone! 

Here are some elements I looked for when shopping for these outfits.

Wrap tops

These are the flirtiest looks I will gravitate towards when it comes to a plunging peak at my décolletage. A wrap top feels as if I have already worked with a tailor on the composition of a look without spending the time or money to pop in for a visit. 

Diane Von Furstenberg is one of my inspirations as I have her dresses and love her story (her books and life are amazing). I look up to her vision of elevated grace and always think of her when it comes to wrap pieces. 

Boatnecks

As I have broad shoulders, I love accentuating them with a fitted waistline. Boatnecks are the way to do this to ironically make me look more balanced as a petite princess. I also love being more covered up as I grow into my 30s. 

This construction makes anyone at any age look more refined and taken seriously. I feel like Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn, Vivien Leigh, and Elizabeth Taylor with a contemporary take. In essence, I feel like a movie star especially when I add my jewels at 6pm. 

Asymmetrical proportions

The chief concern I had with my elegant basics throughout the years is I look like a suburban soccer mum once I put on a crewneck. I always have to find a way to not look so boring by layering an eye-catching look on top or underneath with a collar. 

This stabilises the challenge of trying to make an outfit appealing whilst still keeping it appropriate for casual outings in Los Angeles. It is currently in the 80s during Winter here, so life is very different and might not perfectly mirror yours. These looks helped me get through days of discipline without feeling monotonous. 

Halternecks

I love a good open underarm moment. Letting your armpits breathe will save you all throughout the seasons. In the Summer, I layer sleeveless items with long sleeve designs on top. 

This way, I never have dark underarms, avoid pit stains, and all around feel fresh. An open back also makes things exciting in the Summer. I love letting my back breathe without sweating through my attire.

Trousers

In the summer, I still like to have my legs covered, because I tan really easily. The lines are impossible for me to get rid of unless three years of staying out of the sun passes. I do not want to miss out on life, so this has helped me stay sane without constant sun protection application.

Trouser matching sets have made my life easier by encouraging me to be out with friends and family longer during our adventures with less worry while still looking fabulous.
